“Spike” and “Rexy” will continue to roam the IMSA circuits in 2025.
AO Racing has secured their entries for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in LMP2 and GTD PRO. This season, the second in the WeatherTech Championship, the team competed in both classes with good results. PJ Hyett and Paul-Loup Chatin scored four poles and a podium in LMP2 with the ORECA No. 99, also known as “Spike the dragon,” and “Rexy,” the Porsche 911 GT3 R No. 77, has three wins and Laurin Heinrich leads the GTD PRO standings towards the finale.
“It’s a bit surreal to think that the 2024 season is almost over and we are heading to Petit Le Mans leading the GTD PRO Championship,” said team boss Gunnar Jeannette. “The team has grown a lot this year and it has been a great effort from everyone involved to get to where we are. We look forward to building on all this work and launching at Daytona in 2025 with two cars capable of winning in their class.”
In addition to their on-track success, the team has gained strong fans of all ages, bringing a new style of fun and fan engagement to the paddock. It starts with the paint schemes of Spike and Rexy, the T-Rex (and sometimes Roxy, the pink dinosaur) on the cars, but the team takes the theme to the paddock and the trails.
“Fans have really embraced Spike, Rexy, and Roxy this year, for which we are extremely grateful,” Jeannette noted. “It’s so much fun to see families and kids getting so excited about the cars and the characters. We can’t wait to continue to enjoy this support across the country during the IMSA calendar.”
The team will confirm the driver lineup at a later date.
